At the risk of engaging where I may not want to be engaged, I don't think the stars and bars were removed to cure gun violence or mass shootings.

The stars and bars were removed because they are representative of slaveholding rebels from the 19th century who were summarily put down within 5 years by the full weight and authority of the United States government. Not only did they not stand a chance of succeeding due to the industrial might, technological capacity, and tolerance of the Union, they couldn't even get foreign governments to recognize them.

Nobody is going to take your right to fly a Confederate flag or even a Nazi flag at your trailer home, nope. BUT, in Germany you can not fly the Nazi flag, cause they believe the flag is based on evil.
