cockroach problem

3 days ago, 02 AM, woke up for needs, saw a cockroach pacing back and forth at the floor, caught it then took it out window throwing it approximately 20 meters down from 7th floor to outside on concreet walkway....

it is a living creature, like us...
an avarage cockroach 2cm from back to head, then 20 meter high free dive from my floor to the concrete walkway is 1000 cockroaches long freediving. 2cm X 1000 = 20 meters...

this is same thing for a 185 cm tall man to freedive on concrete from 1850 meters to the ground.
after throwing the cockroach, saw it kept walking as if nothing had happened.
however, if it was a human thrown down from 1850 meters height, i dont think the human wud said ohh holy sheeet, then kept walking, but prolly he wud have died just in a sec.

so, why, why we living creatures are this far different from each other...
what makes the cockroach to be this high armored against crashes and why we are this much vulnerable ?

In a vacuum the cockroach may have met it's maker. But air resistance would have cushioned it's fall.

Not all cockroaches can fly but most can glide in a downward arc to slow a fall like that, add in what others have said about terminal velocity, air resistance and how gravity works, it's not surprising that the roach survived.

Oh my. You do realize that "damage" is a function of anatomy, not physics. People die from short falls and survive greater distances all the time. Add into this the various points of failure that different organisms have. The circulatory system of a cockroach is much greater protected than that of the typical human, for example. The same is true for the digestion system (the human has absolutely no protection to vital organs whatsoever).

When you start applying notions of exterior armor to humans you get human football players and medieval knights, who are clearly able to withstand a lot more punishment. Just compare a typical hockey player to a basketball player. (Oh I hurt my little toe ... I can't play today!)

Funny enough, the same rings true for Wyoming. No roaches, nice place to visit, but we have a bit more luck with the "we don't want you to live here" part.

nice posts, however everyone missed that how far cruel i can be... catch it, throw it... pretty precise cut solution but no matter how disgusting it looks is it moral to catch a living creature then throw it up down from 7th floor through ground ?
