Religious INSTITUTIONS, like many large institutions that have power over people, have abused that power forever.

This is a story as old as time.

Religious institutions are not necessarily worse than non-religious ones. That said, in modern times we have seen many issues at religious institutions related to child abuse. So why? It’s likely because they are/have been subject to less scrutiny than non-religious institutions and because they are so insular they have put the goal of retaining power AHEAD of the mission to protect children.

So what can we do…
*Yes, background checks should be mandatory for all teachers and people involved in childcare.
*Yes, we need to hold institutions accountable when then hide, protect, or facilitate these types of abuses.

… BUT at the end of the day, as a parent, what can/should you do?

Be involved in your children’s life. Know them, engage, them, talk to them… if you KNOW your children and something happens you will know/feel it. Involve yourself at their school. Go to school events, go to teacher-parent meetings. Get to know as much as possible the people who are responsible for your child/children. Meet the teachers, coaches, assistants, etc. If you are around the school and involved predators are less-likely to target your children because they know YOU will catch on… they will target someone else. If you get to know to other adults then TRUST your gut… I’m not saying you can ‘always tell’ if someone is a predator, but maybe you can.

Outsource as little of your childcare as possible… and when you must outsource care then manage/monitor it.

He was SO EAGER to attack me, that he was FROTHING at the mouth and hastily made this thread, his first post, and the TITLE that he forgot to check his grammar. Typical pee rat: his brain is small and did not catch his OBVIOUS error that at least THREE people pointed out his error BEFORE I DID. And he still has yet to realize and/or acknowledge his error. HIS EGO is bigger than his brain that he cannot do so.

pee rat was EAGER to insinuate lies about me and ABOUT those institutions of which I am affiliated that he cannot use his brain beyond a single and FALSE NARRATIVE. How many times have I used THAT phrase to describe a post by pee rat? TOO MANY. And NOTE that pee rat has NEVER addressed this VERY POINT. He is too busy trying to advance his LIES.

And I suppose he has NEVER heard of the VIRTUS program. It is VERY doubtful.

I will also ADD that the School I now teach at acted quickly when we had a person working there who had "WEIRD" habits and gave students "the Creeps" because he said things that are NOT APPROPRIATE at ANY SCHOOL. He was QUICKLY FIRED. We do not tolerate those who may harm children.

AND the same is true for adult parents and adult relatives in "Nursing Homes" and other assisted living facilities. We must act and speak to protect those in society who are vulnerable, no matter where they are or who they are.
