FEMA flood map

Post by herndawg »

here is a link to a map of different areas of flood damage from Katrina. It is pretty crappy but could be redrawn and looks like it would make a good game. http://www.fema.gov/hazard/flood/recove ... _maps.shtm

Okay, some colleagues talked me into reversing my veto... But I am very opposed to this idea and the way you presented it.

I gave this some thought, (should've done that first before I posted), you are right. I will make sure to think stuff over for more that like 3 seconds from now on. With that said, my idea with this map now is more like a building effort rather than a destroying. Like armies would be more like houses and whoever can rebuild all territories first wins. heh heh, yeaaaaaaa, don't know but I didn't think of sensitivity issues obviously, I just saw the map and layout and it looked good. And I am not a huge fan of FEMA anyway. I live in the area that provided almost all the mobile trailer units for Katrina and know many people who go there every year also and am not too impressed with some things and how they are handled. Anyhow feel free to burn this idea at the stake I guess, unless looking at it a different way and a different kind of play would work.

this was suggested in paulus's new orleans thread.

i think most people would agree that this is an extremely bad idea.

Yes, I am also against the idea of a Hurricane Katrina/Flood themed map. Even if there was a lot of support for it, it would have to be used over a New Orleans map and I much prefer a CC map of the city of New Orleans like the one I'm currently proposing in another thread than a CC map of New Orleans dominated by a Katrina or flood theme.

I don't like the Katrina idea at all, but what about a more general natural disaster theme -- whereby folks are either battling or building and then periodically get interrupted by various natural disasters. They could be straight penalties, random penalties or some other factor. I suggested something using fire as a basic addition, but haven't gotten any takers and do not have the tech expertise to do it myself.
