U9's Soccer League 1v1 - Two weeks remaining

Welcome to the Under 9's Soccer League, a league designed to allow CC players to manage their favourite national team in an international league format!

Why the Under 9's you ask? Well that's how many rounds the game has to finish within before it is considered a draw ;) For every round earlier than the 9th, that's how many goals you win by. The quicker the game finishes, the bigger the scoreline.

Freemiums are welcome, as are, of course, Premiums. You just need 1 slot free per week. There will be two groups in the first season. The first group will be with players that only want to use Classic map. The second group will be with players that want the option of Classic or a home map.

Reserves currently required!
All reserves will be able to play immediately. They will be placed in one of the groups, depending on their preference for home ground, and will play 'postponed' matches to catch up with everyone else.

This will be a perpetual league, with a new champion crowned each season, promotion/relegation, leading goalscorers, and even a mini-cup competition.

The top 2 of each league will play off for 1st and 2nd, the next 2 for 3rd place. For the next season, the top 4 of each league will play in Division 1, and the bottom 4 of each league will play in Division 2. Once that season starts, promotion/relegation will be 2 up, 2 down.

Signing Up
No more sign-ups until next season.

Managing your team
  • Once you have been allocated a team, you get to decide upon 3 forwards, 2 midfielders, and 1 defender who will be the primary goalscorers on your team.
  • No obligation to name the goalscorers yourself, but you might want a favourite footballer in there who doesn't get the respresentation (you think) they deserve ;)
  • Play for the win, or play for the draw - any battle outcome decided after round 8 is a draw. Maybe you need just that 1 extra point to finish top of the league, or to avoid dreaded relegation?
  • Apply for position of manager with another team - they may be new to the league, or they may have just sacked their old manager!

Scoreboards
  • League tables - vie for League Champion, the ultimate prize.
  • Leading goalscorers - boast the leading goalscorer in the entire League.
  • Cup Winner - Champion or not, you can still win the prestigious Cup.
  • Hall of Fame - loyalty rewarded with longest managerial runs topping the list.
  • Most improved - the player who performed the best given his ranking at the start of the season, and his league place at the end.

Players interested in the specific rules can read them here. Sign-ups are via the forums, though feel free to PM me with any question :D

Rules

Post by e_i_pi »

Rules
For a win before round 9*, that's how many goals you win by. Win in round 8, you win by 1 goal. Win in round 7, you win by 2 goals, and so on.
If a game is decided in round 9 or later, it is considered a draw.
Victory via deadbeat is considered a 3-0 victory.
Every team will play every other team in their group, with a home and away game for each opponent.
3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.
Goal difference will decide position in league standing where teams have equal points.
Goals scored will decide position in league standing where teams have equal points and equal goal difference.

* Players in group B will have home maps as options. These will have different weightings, as shown below:
  • 10 - Canada
  • 9 - Classic, BeNeLux, Europe, South America
  • 8 - Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Caribbean Islands

    Scoring
When a game is decided, every round earlier than the 9th that it is decided in will determine the goal difference for that match. To work out what the actual score is though, we first look at the losers achievement in that game, ie - the best continent bonus, if any, they managed to hold during the game:
    • 0 goals for No continent
    • 1 goal for Oceania / South America
    • 2 goals for Africa
    • 3 goals for Europe / North America
    • 4 goals for Asia
To determine how many goals the winner has scored, take the losers goals, and add the round bonus.
In the event of a draw, the largest bonus held in the game is the draw score (eg - 2-2 draw if Africa was held by either team)
[i]Example - Italy plays France. Italy wins in round 6. The goal difference for the match is +3. During the game, France held South America, so France scores 1 goal. Therefore Italy score 4 (= 1 + 3) goals. The score is Italy 4-1 France.

The average Classic game ends in round 7.5ish, with 70% of games finishing before round 9. So about 1 in 3 games will be draws, the rest will be results. In case anyone was wondering ;)

    Goalscorers
To determine goalscorers, we look at what bonuses are held during the game:
    • Oceania: Forward #1 scores
    • South America: Forward #2 scores
    • Africa: Forward #3 scores
    • North America: Midfielder #1 scores
    • Europe: Midfielder #2 scores
    • Asia: Defender #1 scores
If more goals are scored than bonuses held, the "free" goals scorers are decided by the owning team.
If less goals are scored than bonuses held, preference goes in order of the list above.
Example - From the game above, Italy wins 4-1 over France. During the game Italy received bonuses for Oceania and Africa, France received bonus for South America. Frances only goalscorer is Forward #2 (for South America). Italys goalscorers are Forward #1 (for Oceania) and Forward #3 (for Africa). The other 2 goals for Italy are decided by Italys manager (ie - they can be allotted to any of Italys 6 nominated footballers)

Resignation / Sacking
A manager is allowed to resign at any stage, though is encouraged to give 3 games notice. During that time, CC players on the reserve list will be allotted teams to manage based on availability, and who was first in line. If a player deadbeats in 3 consecutive games, they are sacked as manager. Teams that have no manager will have their first unmanaged game postponed, and subsequent games will be managed by a caretaker manager (myself) until a new manager is found. (I would hope we could find a manager in the 4 games before I would have to step in though).

New Leagues
Once the reserve list fills up with 8 new players, a new league will be formed. Should this happen in the inaugural season, this will be an exhibition league(s), and not compete for the Champions Trophy, unless the additional league(s) commence at the same time as Groups A and B (this is the case where we are over-subscribed). If this is an exhibition league, that league will still be able to vie for placement in the eventual Divisions 1, 2, 3 etc.
After the inaugural season finishes, new leagues will come into the tournament as the next lowest Division (ie - starting at Division 3). Managers wanting to compete in the higher divisions will have to earn promotion from the lower divisions.

I'd like to run one full round of the league per week, so that's 1 slot per week. Most games should finish in around round 6-10, which means, if players take their turns once per day each, games should finish about once a week. We may need to postpone some games in order to play catch-up, but since it's a league, we don't have to wait on the results of games before moving on to the next round.

One slot should be fine, if you have 2 slots free, you can opt to start your next game early, or play a postponement (if one exists for you). I can't see one slot being a problem. I'll be monitoring the progress of all rounds, and will slow up the rounds to 9 days or longer if necessary :)
