I just cant beat the dice.

Post by Hoots »

OK, this is a rant... I am simply losing any will to play this great game. The following is an example of how nearly every game i start seems to go.

Join North america map (4775503), freestyle, adjacent, flat rate. All i want to do is take a spoil and reinforce...

I get 6 troops for 20 regions, make 2 areas 4 and one area 7 around nebraska. (i have a good amount of the midwest in my control). the 7 vs 3 goes 0-2. 0-2. 1 -1. 0-1, the 4 vs 2's go 0-2, 0-1 each. Im like ok... just need a spoil, attack some 3 vs 3s. 0-2, 0-2, 0-2, etc. in the end. I Nebraske has 2 troops and from attacking 3 vs 3's my total turn was 27 loses, 4 kills.

I just dont get it, this seems to be the majority of my opening turns. I know i should stop attacking but dont odds say after a 0-12 i should be getting some wins? I have heard and read about this site being streaky but this is getting out of hand...

As luck would have it, the 2 other players took mulptiple areas on their opening roll..

Like i said, this is a vent, i dont think the site or the world is against me or anything... it just sucks when you lose your will to play.

After a 0-8 or so should i just end my turn? Ideas? Advice?

NEVER attack with a 3.

it will almost always lose, odds are bad... other 3 rolls just unfortunate....

Quoted for truth.

In a freestyle game you can also wait until others have played and left easy-to-take regions behind.

i always try to avoid a 3 vs 3 but at that point i figured getting behind on spoils was also an issue.

I know it wasnt the most rational play... Its wierd how 0-10 seem to be no biggie on here but i can remember maybe 1 10-0 in the 50 or so games i have played... (let alone something like a 27-4 turn...)

Owell, we probably only remember that bad ones.

This statement is a perfect example of the gambler's fallacy. The odds of winning your next roll do not depend, in any way, on your previous rolls. You are no more (or less) likely to win after a 12-0 loss, than you are after winning 12-0.
