I am fairly close to my brothers and sisters. However the chance of moving the party day is zero. That was the only weekend he could get the Hall we use... and I have a large family. So once it's set, it's set. The Spock principal... "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."

Sounds expensive. If we're going to bring rational Utilitarian ethics into this; try a cost analysis to determine the amount saved by you in either situation. $40 ÷ 2 people = $20 per person or (Money spent on party ÷ total estimated family members attending) + (Odds of getting shanked by a nerd's lightsaber * hospital bill) = ???

The party cost is fixed... it won't go up of down based on my attendance.
The tickets are bought.
The only relative cost delta is what I would spend at the movie on food... or what I would drink at the party (cash bar, it's at a hall)... these two numbers are roughly equivalent. So cost is not a factor.
