You should not use the total game played to consider which map is the most popular, since obviously a map created in 2015, even if very popular, have less game played than a map created in 2007.
You should consider, as you did after, the games per month, in which case Baltic Crusades become ranked number 8.
Total of games played is also affected by the number of players, in the first years of the site we had more players, and less maps.
It is an interesting stat but it doesn't tell you which maps are popular imo.
Fewnix wrote:Classic is of course the most popular having close to 4 million of the over 14 million played, roughly 30%. Then the next 6 most popular maps, ranging from Arms Race at over 300,000 games played to Doodle Earth at almost 800,000 games played ,together account for aver 3 million of the over 14 million played. so the top 7 most popular maps on CC, all created before 2009, account for over 1/2 of the over 14 million games played.
You should also consider the influence of speed games in those statistic.
For example :
Doodle earth -768,780 games played with 460,420 speed games and 308,360 - 24h gmes .
World 2.1 - 456,941 games played with 31,815 speed games and 423,839 - 24h games.
Also speaking about Baltic Crusade :
Baltic Crusade : 102,560games played with 68,216 speed games ( among those 57,440 trench speed games, just for the people that think that trench speed isn't popular) and 34,052 - 24h games
Eurasia 31,344 games played, only 2,556 seed games, and thus 28,538 - 24h games.
Eurasia and Baltic crusade are both from 2012, therefore if we don't take into account speed games, both maps are almost as popular as each other.
World 2.1 is actually more popular than doodle earth without the speed games.
Speed games should be taken into account differently, imho, because size of the map has a strong influence on the choice, and also because 1 speed players can play way more games than one 24h game players, which mean a "speed map" could have more games played with actually less people liking the map.
Would be nice to know how many different players played the map more than 5 times for example, would be really a good indication of popularity.
